Install from your computer.

Choose your device first, then follow the instructions for your computer. Keep this guide in a separate tab while you install.

Before you start

Use the page for your exact model: Kobo Libra 2, reMarkable 1, reMarkable 2 or Paper Pure. Other models are not supported by this release.
Make a separate, checked copy of your books, notebooks and other documents before changing device software. Charge the device and connect your computer to reliable power.
Use current desktop Chrome, an internet connection and a USB data cable. A charging-only cable will not work. Connect directly where possible; if using a hub, disconnect other e-readers and try a direct port if detection fails.
Use the browser and installer on the same computer. Keep that computer awake, the installer open and the cable connected throughout transfer and installation.
For reMarkable, the supported stock firmware is 3.28.0.172. Confirm it in Settings before downloading. Paper Pure also requires Developer mode and working device SSH access. Read the device’s own warnings and back up before enabling Developer mode; do not reset a device as a troubleshooting shortcut.

Kobo uses Chrome’s USB connection directly. reMarkable uses a model-specific local installer plus the website. The Mac, Windows and Linux reMarkable downloads contain the same signed device release, packaged for different computers.

Linux installation is supported for all four devices: Kobo uses the browser USB flow, while reMarkable uses the model-specific Linux helper. Paper Pure on Arch Linux with Chromium is our completed physical reference test, including restart into InkHub. On Windows 11, Paper Pure connected and ran the trial through Chrome. The original browser tab was closed; permanent installation was completed over USB and verified after restart. The revised browser completion flow and physical Windows installation on RM1/RM2 remain unverified. Computer and USB-adapter compatibility can vary.

Mac

reMarkable

Choose Apple menu → About This Mac. The installer requires an Apple silicon Mac (M-series) with macOS 13 or later. The downloadable reMarkable app does not support Intel Macs.
On your device’s installation page, choose Download for Mac · Apple silicon. Open the downloaded ZIP in Finder to extract it.
Open InkHub Installer.app. The final 1.0.0 app is signed, Apple-notarized and stapled.
If macOS shows the normal first-open confirmation for an internet download, check the app name and source before opening it. If it reports a damaged app, revoked signature or malware, stop and report the exact message. Do not remove quarantine flags or disable Gatekeeper.
No separate Python or minisign installation is needed. Continue with Connect, pair, try and install below.

Kobo Libra 2

Use desktop Chrome and the Kobo steps. You do not need the reMarkable app, a separate fastboot tool or a USB driver installer on macOS. The Apple silicon restriction above applies to the reMarkable app.

Windows

reMarkable

Use Windows 11 on an x64 computer. Windows on ARM and other Windows versions are not qualified for this installer.
Choose Download for Windows · x64 ZIP on the page for your exact device.
In File Explorer, right-click the ZIP, choose Extract All, and open the extracted folder. Open InkHub Installer.exe from there. Do not run it inside the ZIP viewer or move the EXE away from its accompanying files.
No Microsoft Store, separate Python installation, system OpenSSH or administrator session is needed for the reMarkable installer. Keep the bundled folders and files together.
The current Windows package is unsigned and experimental. If SmartScreen, Defender or your organisation blocks it, stop and report the message. Do not turn off protection to run it.
Continue with Connect, pair, try and install. The first connection asks you to confirm the device’s SSH fingerprint; the Windows helper requires the full displayed fingerprint.

Kobo Libra 2: USB driver

Kobo’s browser route requires WinUSB on the Kobo fastboot interface. This is separate from the reMarkable EXE and does not apply to a reMarkable network interface.

Read the fastboot button sequence below, then enter that mode with the cable connected.
If Chrome cannot claim the Kobo, obtain Zadig from its official site. Follow its driver guide; driver installation may require administrator approval.
In Zadig, use Options → List All Devices. Select only the Kobo’s USB download gadget and verify USB ID 18D1:0D02. Select WinUSB, then install or replace that interface’s driver. Do not select a keyboard, storage drive, hub or reMarkable.
Return to Chrome and repeat the fastboot entry sequence if the Kobo has left that mode. Select it in the website’s device picker.

Linux

Linux reference test, 24 September 2026: Paper Pure, stock firmware 3.28.0.172, Arch Linux x86_64 (kernel 7.2.6), Chromium 153, Python 3.14.7, OpenSSH 10.5 and minisign 0.12. The published Linux package passed USB connection, trial, installation and restart checks. All 16 installed runtime files matched the release before and after restart. The trial’s automatic return to stock was also checked.

On Linux, run Chrome or Chromium and the installer on the same computer, with the tablet connected to that computer by USB. Keep the terminal open. You do not need a second computer or remote access.

reMarkable

Install Python 3.11 or later, the OpenSSH client and minisign using your distribution’s package manager. The Linux helper uses these installed tools.
On Ubuntu or Debian:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install python3 openssh-client minisign
python3 --version

On Arch Linux, use a fully updated system:

sudo pacman -Syu --needed python openssh minisign
python3 --version

If that update replaces your kernel, restart before connecting the tablet. USB devices can appear without working network drivers when the running kernel no longer matches its installed modules.

Download the Linux archive for your exact reMarkable model. Extract it with your file manager into a local folder. Keep different models’ packages in separate folders.
Open a terminal inside the extracted InkHub-Installer folder, which contains install.sh, device, release and tools. Run:

./install.sh

Run as your normal user, without sudo. If execution permission was lost during extraction, run sh ./install.sh from that same folder. You do not need to enable an SSH server on your computer; the installer uses the SSH client to connect to the tablet.

Continue with Connect, pair, try and install. Keep the terminal open. NetworkManager or your normal network service should configure the tablet’s USB network connection automatically.

Kobo Libra 2: USB permissions

Use desktop Chrome as your normal desktop user. On a distribution using udev and a local logind desktop session, add this device-specific rule once:

Reconnect the Kobo and enter fastboot again so the rule applies. Then follow the Kobo steps. Do not run Chrome as root or grant every USB device world-writable access. Systems without udev/logind need equivalent permission configuration from their administrator.

reMarkable: connect, pair, try and install

Begin on the original reMarkable home screen, with the supported firmware and SSH access ready. Connect only the reMarkable you selected. The models share a USB address, so connecting several can reach the wrong device.
Open your computer’s model-specific installer. It verifies the signed release before connecting. Check its first-use SSH identity prompt against a trusted record for your device. If a previously saved identity changes, stop and investigate; do not erase the saved key just to dismiss the warning.
Find the tablet’s SSH password in stock Settings → General → Help → Copyrights and licenses. Enter it only in the local installer, never on inkhub.dev or in a support message. Password entry may show no characters as you type.
When the installer says Connected, leave it open. On the matching inkhub.dev device page, paste its pairing code and choose Pair this computer. If Chrome asks to access other apps and services on this device, choose Allow so the page can connect to your local installer. The code is used once and must be entered within five minutes. This is separate from the ten-minute trial. You do not pair again to install. Reopening the page in the same browser resumes a saved connection while the helper stays open, unless browser storage is blocked or the connection has expired.
Choose Check connected device. Wait for the model, firmware and available-space checks to pass. Do not bypass a failed check.
Before the trial, use Check installation access. If you intend to keep InkHub, sign in and complete the free-place claim or checkout for this model first. Download and save your order confirmation, tick the saved-copy box and select Confirm saved copy, then return here and check access again. If you already have an order for this model, use that order; do not claim another free place or pay again. Downloading and trying remain free.
Read and acknowledge the trial information, then choose Try InkHub. Wait while the files transfer and are verified. InkHub then runs temporarily on the tablet; check the display, touch and reading experience.
Within the ten-minute trial, read and complete the installation acknowledgement, then choose Install InkHub to keep it. Alternatively, choose Return to reMarkable. An unconfirmed trial returns to stock on timeout or restart.
Wait for the website to confirm installation. Restart the tablet and check that InkHub opens normally before closing the installer. Your original reMarkable notebooks remain in the stock system.

Already running InkHub? Use its supported Settings → Software update route, or copy the matching signed runtime package into Books/Updates and verify it there. The downloadable fresh installer can refuse an existing installation. Do not delete your installed tree to force it through.

Kobo Libra 2: connect, try and install

Complete your computer’s USB setup above. Open the Kobo Libra 2 installation page in desktop Chrome.
Connect the data cable and power the Kobo fully off. Hold the top page-turn button, briefly press and release power, then keep holding only the page-turn button for about 15 seconds. The screen can stay dark.
Choose Connect and check device and select USB download gadget in Chrome. The bootloader connection is time-limited; if it disappears, repeat the sequence.
Choose Try only for a temporary session from memory. It does not replace the installed operating system. Power off and restart to leave the trial.
To install, enter fastboot again and choose Install on the same model page. Follow the on-screen account-access and risk-acknowledgement steps. The installer runs its backup and installation over the connected cable; follow each prompt and leave the cable connected while it writes or verifies.
Wait for completion and follow the final restart instruction. Once InkHub starts, check Home and Reader. Copy the dated backup folder from libra2-linux/backup/ on the Kobo’s card to your computer for safekeeping.

Do not hold power and a page-turn button together. That is the factory-reset gesture and can erase documents. The sequence above uses a brief press and release of power.

The automatic backup stays on the Kobo’s card; Chrome does not download it. It cannot protect against failure of that same card. Reinstalling backs up the currently installed system, which may already be InkHub.

If something does not connect

No tablet appears: Wake the device, check the data cable, disconnect other e-readers and try a direct USB port. Reconnect only when no transfer or write is in progress. On Linux, restart after a kernel update before investigating USB drivers.
reMarkable password or network connection fails: Confirm the password on the tablet, the selected model and that only one reMarkable is connected. The USB network should give the computer an address in 10.11.99.x and make the tablet reachable at 10.11.99.1. If no address appears after waking and reconnecting, report your OS and exact message. Do not replace its USB network driver with Kobo’s WinUSB driver.
Kobo appears but Chrome cannot claim it: Check the Windows WinUSB setup or Linux udev rule above. Close other programs using that device. Safari and Firefox cannot run the direct Kobo WebUSB flow.
The website cannot reach the helper: Keep the local installer open and use Chrome on the same computer. Allow the expected local-network connection to the helper if Chrome asks. Reopen the installer and pair with its new code if the code expired. Do not refresh an active transfer or start a second installer.
The trial ends before you install: Stock starts again automatically. Check your installation access first, then reconnect and repeat the device check and trial. Do not treat a temporary trial as a completed installation.
A signature, firmware or identity check fails: Stop. Download the current package for the exact model and retain the error message for support. Do not disable signature verification, certificate checks or operating-system protection.

Return and recovery

reMarkable trial: choose Return to reMarkable or allow its timeout. After installation: InkHub Settings → Restart → Restart into reMarkable selects stock for one boot. InkHub remains the default on the following boot. This keeps the original notebook experience separate from InkHub.

Kobo trial: power off and restart. After installation: Go back to Kobo in Settings starts factory restoration, not a one-boot switch. It can erase InkHub, books, settings and the on-card backup. Copy what you need to a separate computer first.

Interrupted installation: keep power connected and read the reported state. Do not interrupt an active write or repeatedly force restarts. A Kobo that still enters fastboot can reconnect to the matching installer for a retry. If a reMarkable does not return to stock, or the helper reports recovery is required, stop and seek model-specific help before resetting or flashing anything else.

For help, open an InkHub issue with your model, computer OS, installer filename, error and the last completed step. Remove passwords, pairing codes, serial numbers and personal documents. Recovery is not guaranteed and may require further technical work.
